Where did the University of Mainz have its origins? What traces of its history can we still find in the city today? These questions are the main focus of a course offered in the 2026/2027 winter semester.

Participants will explore the historical significance of selected sites related to the university and examine them using historical and contemporary images and source materials. Stops on the tour include the Bursen (student residences), the Domus Universitatis, former professors’ residences on Neue Universitätsstraße, the Altmünster Monastery, and more.

The aim of the course is to visibly show the old University of Mainz within today’s urban landscape by preparing them for a broader audience and making them available through the Actionbound app.
